Wage: $62,566.40 - $78,457.60 (starting wage contingent upon experience)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
Please be advised there are 3 different Building Inspector positions with different assignments being
advertised at the same time. If you are interested in more than one assignment, please apply for each
one. Applicants will only be considered for the assignments they apply for.
Job Summary
Under general direction, performs field inspections of all commercial, industrial, institutional and residential
structures for compliance with related codes and regulations. Prescribes action for conformance to codes
and standards. Assists in the planning and implementation of owner-occupied and rental housing
rehabilitation programs.
Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
Associates degree from an accredited educational institution and one year of related experience; or three
years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. State International
Code Council Residential Building Inspector (B1) and Commercial Building Inspector (B2) certification
required within 12 months of hire. Valid State of Iowa drivers license with satisfactory driving record. Must
be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
Bachelors degree from an accredited educational institution; or four years of related experience and/or
equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in construction/building trades. Residential,
Commercial or Plans Examiner certifications (M1-3, P1-3, E1-3, B-3), or the ability to obtain such certification
within 12 months of hire.
